Mechanical Engineering Technicians perform technical tasks to aid in mechanical engineering research, and in the design, manufacture, assembly, construction, operation, maintenance and repair of machines, components and mechanical equipment.
Providing technical assistance in research and development work concerning machine tools, vehicle engines, aircraft, heating, ventilating and refrigerating installations and other mechanically functioning plant and equipment;

Designing and preparing layouts of machine installations;

Assisting with preparation of detailed estimates of quantities and costs of materials and labour required for manufacture and installation;

Assisting with technical supervision of manufacture, utilisation, maintenance and repair of mechanical plants and engines;

Applying technical knowledge of machinery and mechanical engineering principles and practices in order to identify and solve problems arising in the course of work;

Ensuring that mechanical engineering design and final output are in accordance with the specifications, regulations and provisions of contracts;
